Episode One, The Best Man
- It's village tradition to run a race after a wedding. Tom Gilder is raining champion. Three medals needed to be collected, one from the shop, one from the church, one from the railway. Winner gets a month of free beer.
- Linda is Tom's old girlfriend.
- Arthur's wife died a year before. He couldn't stand being in the house on his own so he moved into the room above the hospital.
- Tom wrote on a bench up on a hill overlooking the village "Len Cosgrove loves Mrs Utterthwaite."
- Arthur didn't tell the NHS about the ward, he doesn't like change; it's been good enough for 35 years it doesn't need to change now.
